Expert Q&A

What should buyers ask an AI voice-agent expert?

Trace Margin research deskSection 06Page 1 of 24Last updated

Ask what proves that the agent completed the right task, what happens when it cannot, and who pays for the resulting work. Our recommended buying standard is a verified, policy-compliant outcome at an acceptable total cost—not a convincing demonstration or an attractive price per minute.

This interview guide prioritises inbound home-services booking, controlled dental scheduling and after-hours overflow. It also addresses enterprise procurement, outbound lead response and business process outsourcing, where buyers should require separate operational and legal assessments.

Publication status: This is a researched question set, not a completed interview. Every answer framework below is the desk’s proposed framing, not an attributed expert opinion. Nobody listed has been interviewed for this document or has endorsed its conclusions. Quote spaces are deliberately unfilled.

How should the guide be used?

For each question, ask the expert for four things:

  1. A decision rule: When should the buyer proceed, change the scope or stop?
  2. An evidence artefact: What document, transaction record or test result supports that decision?
  3. A failure example: Where has the proposed approach failed, and what changed afterwards?
  4. A boundary: Which workflows, caller groups or deployment conditions fall outside the answer?

Ask suppliers and independent specialists the same core questions. Add the buyer’s operations owner to the conversation: an expert’s general explanation should not substitute for evidence from the proposed deployment.
