Your data stays on this device.
What is stored, and where
Tool inputs, saved reports, shortlists, previously saved outbox messages, preferences and anonymous analytics events are stored in your browser’s local storage under keys beginning afc:. They are not transmitted anywhere. If local storage is unavailable or full, data is held in memory and lost when you close the tab; the site tells you when this happens.
Necessary handling versus marketing
Saving a report keeps your requested tool output on this device. When you submit an enquiry or email request, the fields you entered, the page you sent it from and any campaign tags in the link are stored on our server and seen only by authorised Trace Margin team members. They are not written to browser storage. Research updates are optional marketing: the consent box is separate and unchecked by default. Declining marketing never affects access to tools or files.
Analytics
We record a small set of local events—workflow_selected, tool_started, tool_completed, artifact_exported, route_selected, shortlist_saved and consent_updated—with no identifiers and none of the text you enter.
What not to enter
Use aggregate figures and redacted excerpts. Do not enter identifiable call recordings, patient records or payment details. The tools do not need them.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Because locally saved data never leaves your device, you can exercise most of these yourself: export from the workspace, or use “Delete all local data”. In the United States, applicable state privacy laws (for example in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others) may grant similar rights; any connected service will need a process for verified requests under the law that applies to you.
Future production service
If Trace Margin later delivers email or stores reports on a server, this notice will be updated before any data leaves your device, naming the processors involved, retention periods and the lawful basis for each purpose.
